The team has been obscenely busy shipping Silverlight v1.0 and working on Silverlight v1.1 so I haven't had much chance to post lately, but this stopped me in my tracks.  Via Tim's blog I saw this implementation of Windows Forms on top of Silverlight by a company called Netika.  Having worked on the Windows Forms team for 5+ years I know how much work it was for our team to implement all these features on top of Win32 (especially ToolStrips).  Seeing Netika implement much of the WinForms library on the Silverlight alpha in just a few months blows me away.  They've implemented focus, text input including selectioin, combobox, ToolStrips with docking support, and my favorite, the design surface. With the addition of the Spark component set for Flex 4, we think that there may be too many classes now to put all the information on one set of posters (the existing set is 5 posters for all Flex, AIR and Flash Player packages.) I decided to go ahead and do galaxy stars, heat or no! :) Here's a bunch of the strips that I'm about to subcut. The directions said that I would need (85) 2" strips, I accidentally cut 90... and now I have more that 25 of them leftover! Yikes... that's pretty wonky math. So I double checked the background math, and it's pretty exact, go figure. The PHP company Zend has announced a collaboration with Adobe to integrate AMF (Action Message Format) into the Zend Framework. In all the excitement last week at Adobe MAX, we failed to highlight a major release for PHP developers from Zend. Zend Framework 1.7 was released last week - this is the first version of the framework that includes AMF support, making it really easy for PHP developers to build great UIs using Flex and Flash. The latest version also includes support for a new version of the Dojo Toolkit (1.2.1), among other improvements. The Zend AMF plugin has been packaged as a separate download - allowing it to be integrated into other PHP web frameworks easily. Yesterday Zend released a preview release of their next version of the Zend Framework, which includes the ZendAMF module. This is the first release of the framework that includes the module, which follows the partnership announcement made last month. Developers can learn more about Flex and Zend by visiting the PHP page of the Flex developer center. There are also 2 upcoming e-seminars that would be of interest to PHP developers. Both have the same content - a technical talk about getting started with Flex and AIR using the Zend Framework and ZendAMF.
